What to Expect on Your First Visit
No surprises. Just great care.
Visiting a new dentist can feel uncertain—what will happen? How long will it take? Will it hurt? At BluSky Dental, we want your first visit to be comfortable and informative. Here's exactly what to expect.

Your First Visit: Step by Step
Step 1: Welcome (5 minutes)
Our front desk team will:
- Greet you warmly
- Confirm your information
- Answer any immediate questions
- Make you comfortable in the waiting area
Step 2: Getting to Know You (10-15 minutes)
Before examining your teeth, we want to understand:
- Your dental history
- Any concerns or symptoms
- Your goals for your smile
- Medical conditions that affect dental care
- Medications and allergies
- Previous dental experiences (positive or negative)
This conversation matters. It helps us provide personalized care.
Step 3: Dental Examination (15-20 minutes)
Your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, soft tissues, and jaw and bite.
Step 4: Diagnostic X-Rays (10 minutes)
We'll take X-rays as needed to see decay between teeth, bone levels, root health, impacted teeth, and issues not visible to the eye.
Our digital X-rays use 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays.
Step 5: Discussion and Treatment Planning (15-20 minutes)
After the examination, your dentist will share findings, show you X-rays and photos, answer your questions, and create a treatment plan together.
No pressure. You'll have time to make decisions.
Step 6: Professional Cleaning (if time permits)
Depending on your needs and schedule, cleaning may be done at first visit or scheduled separately.
Step 7: Checkout and Follow-Up
Before you leave, you'll receive a treatment plan summary, cost estimates and insurance coverage details, and next appointment scheduling.
How Long Will It Take?
Plan for 90-120 minutes for your first visit. This allows thorough examination and meaningful conversation without rushing.
| Component | Time |
|---|---|
| Paperwork/welcome | 10-15 min |
| Consultation | 10-15 min |
| Examination | 15-20 min |
| X-rays | 10 min |
| Discussion/planning | 15-20 min |
| Cleaning (if included) | 30-45 min |
Will It Hurt?
Your first visit is primarily examination and X-rays—typically painless. If cleaning is included and you have sensitive teeth, we'll use gentle techniques.
If treatment is needed at future visits, we'll ensure you're numb and comfortable before any procedure.
